Outlander fans and stars have paid tribute to Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor who passed away on July 26.

The music world has been in mourning for the announcement of the tragic death of singing legend Sinéad O’Connor at the age of 56. What is Outlander’s credits?

Outlander’s credits are “The Skye Boat Song”, an adaptation of a Gaelic song composed by William Ross in 1782 and originally titled “Cuckoo of the Tree”. Its modern version became popular at the end of the 19th century, the lyrics having been modified to tell the journey of Bonnie Prince Charlie – nickname of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720-1788), pretender of the Stuarts to the English and Scottish crowns – from Benbecula to the Isle of Skye after its defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The lyrics were written by Sir Harold Boulton.

How did Sinéad O’Connor come to interpret the Outlander song?

It was the bosses of Starz – the original channel of the Outlander series – who chose the singer to perform a new version of the song for season 7 of the series. At the time the song was revealed to the public last February, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts told insider : “We are honored to have Sinéad O’Connor performing ‘The Skye Boat Song’.
