Outlander: What to expect in season 7 – start, trailer, plot and cast

• US broadcaster Starz confirmed season 7 of “Outlander” in March 2021.
• 16 new episodes tell the events of the book “Echo der Hoffnung” published by Diana Gabaldon in 2009.
• Lead actors Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe return for the new episodes.

It’s clear: The US broadcaster Starz is giving “Outlander” a seventh season! As early as March 2021, the broadcaster announced that the popular time travel drama series about Claire and Jamie Fraser would be continued. It is also known that the 7th season will consist of 16 episodes.

Outlander season 7: start date and trailer

Filming for the 7th season of “Outlander” is already underway. This is basically a good sign and under normal circumstances would indicate that the new episodes might appear as early as autumn 2022.

Now, however, season 7 has 16 episodes, which of course makes the shoot much longer. So a start in spring 2023 is more likely, almost a year after the beginning of season 6. An official date will probably be in the second half of 2022 at the earliest.

You will also have to wait a while for a trailer, which will probably only appear a few weeks before the new episodes are released.

Outlander Season 7: Storyline

Since season 6 of “Outlander” was shorter due to the corona pandemic and only comprised 8 episodes, season 7 still has to cover certain sections from the 6th “Outlander” novel “A Touch of Snow and Ashes”. After the Season 6 finale, Claire is in prison and suspected of being a murderer. Can she prove her innocence?

Much of Season 7 will of course be based on Diana Gabaldon’s seventh book, Echoes of Hope. Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts told Entertainment Weekly magazine, “We can’t wait to get back into the writers’ room.”

In Echoes of Hope, Claire and Jamie find themselves in the midst of the American Revolution, while Brianna and her family live in Lallybroch in the 1970s. But soon the past catches up with them again. In the show, however, the Mackenzies didn’t travel to the future, so there might be some deviations from the book in their storyline.

Lord John Gray and his stepson William are also involved in the revolution but are fighting on the British side. Things get exciting when it comes to love for Ian.

Outlander Season 7: Cast and Production

Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Sam Heughan (Jamie), Sophie Skelton (Brianna) and Richard Rankin (Roger) will all be part of Season 7. Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Andy Harris and Jim Kohlberg reprise their duties as executive producers.
