The Jacobite gold has caused problems in “Outlander” several times, including in season 7. But Mrs. Bug is not the last victim, Jemmy is also in danger.

- In “Outlander” season 7, the Frasers not only had to deal with the aftermath of the Fraser’s Ridge fire, but also with the Bug couple.
- The Bugs have hidden gold under Fraser’s Ridge that Jamie says they don’t rightfully own.
- The greed for gold leads to Mrs. Bug’s death and the cursed jocobite treasure could soon be Jemmy’s undoing.
The gold of the Jacobites, which has often played a role in “Outlander”, is said to be cursed. This could be superstition, but the death of Mrs. Bug in Season 7 Episode 3 makes it abundantly clear that human greed accompanies gold like a curse, causing tragedy time and time again.
The gold was supposed to support the Scots in the Jacobite Rising, but arrived too late in Scotland, whereupon the gold was divided up. Mr Bug, believing that the gold was no longer serving its true purpose of aiding Scotland, took pieces of the gold and hid them in and under Fraser’s Ridge.
After the fire, the situation escalated
After Mrs. Bug was discovered with some of the gold, Jamie confronted Mr. Bug and subsequently banished the couple. However, at night Mrs. Bug returned and searched for the gold in the rubble of Fraser’s Ridge. When Jamie orders her to turn around, Mrs. Bug shoots Jamie and Ian then kills Mrs. Bug.
At his wife’s funeral, Mr. Bug swears revenge, but not only is he now in danger, so is the gold itself. Jamie has now hidden the gold so that it can benefit his grandson Jemmy in the present. Here, too, the curse of the Jacobite gold rages!
Jemmy in danger!
Where there is gold, there are also people who want to take the gold – by any means necessary! From the Outlander books we know that Brianna’s co-worker Rob Cameron went after the gold and even kidnapped Jemmy to blackmail Brianna and Roger to get rich.
While the gold is tempting and can certainly be put to good use, the Frasers would be better off staying away from it once things hopefully end well with Jemmy. Claire, Jamie and Co. have known for a long time that no money in the world is needed for true happiness.
