Outlook – Skoda’s electric future is diverse – and cheap

In the next three years, Skoda wants to triple the number of its electric models. By 2026, in addition to an update for what is currently the only electric car, the Enyaq, four completely new electric vehicles are to appear. From the compact small car in Polo format to an SUV, a classic station wagon to the new flagship, a 4.90 meter long seven-seater.

While the parent company Volkswagen is fully committed to electricity, the Czech subsidiary Skoda is rather cautious when it comes to electric cars. If you are looking for a battery car from the popular brand, you will only find the Enyaq, which costs from 42,000 euros, but as a classic SUV or as a sporty coupé. The monotony will soon be over. The first new e-model will be available in 2024. At the big premiere show near the traditional company headquarters in Mlada Boleslav, there are no real cars to be seen, and nobody at Skoda is talking about the technology either. So what is being pulled from the group’s range of parts near Prague remains largely in the dark. But the life-size sculptures at least give an idea of ​​the fireworks that the Czechs want to burn off bit by bit. Closest to the release date is a 4.50 meter long compact SUV that will hit the streets in 2024 as the “Elroq”. The combination of “Electric” and Karoq naturally points to the ancestry of the newcomer, as it is the modern version of the bestseller Karoq. The silhouette of a small SUV with a slightly sloping rear window behind the spoiler tail on the roof. The 4.20 meter long car, which is currently still under the name “Small”, is the Skoda interpretation of the recently introduced VW ID.2 all want to lure customers. A manager secretly reveals that “his” car, in contrast to the VW, should be on the road with a more powerful battery. Available from 2025. Octavia on Electric The third premiere is not at all SUV-like. An almost straight roof combined with a fairly steep rear window indicate the typical shape of a station wagon. The 4.60 meter long car evokes a long Skoda tradition. The station wagons of the brand, whether Octavia or Superb, stand for spaciousness and high everyday utility, and have been at the top of families’ wish lists for years. “With this model in Octavia format, we want to reach our loyal station wagon customers, who have not yet been able to decide to buy an electric car due to the lack of such a car,” says chief designer Oliver Stefani. The keyword “space” also applies to the largest Playing card in novelty quartet. The 4.90 meter long mixture of MPV and SUV is based on the Vision 7S study presented in 2022, should spoil you with a lounge feeling on up to seven seats, convey a confident driving experience in an airy atmosphere and become the undisputed Skoda flagship for the next few years. The doors that open in opposite directions will hardly make it into series production. The new giant and station wagon are scheduled to appear in 2026. A year earlier, the revised variants of today’s Enyaq Stromer are already on the road, the basic model of which should then remain under 40,000 euros. The SUV is to be geared more towards the needs of families than before, while the coupé wants to set standards in terms of range. Skoda is not yet revealing any details. The logo is a discontinued model After another message from the boardroom, traditional customers will probably have to hold back their tears. The familiar feathered arrow logo goes to the collar. In the future, all electric cars will only have modernized “Skoda” lettering on the front and rear. Everyone else is allowed to keep the tin plaque, which has been changed many times in the company’s history, at least on the hood. When combustion engines are no longer built, the logo will also be a piece of automotive history.
