Over 1,000 km: Mercedes presents e-car with enormous endurance

The most efficient Mercedes of all time is said to be the Vision EQXX concept electric car. The electric car should have a range of over 1,000 km. The proof will be provided shortly.

“We will the world’s most attractive e-cars build,” says Mercedes boss Ola Källenius at the presentation of the Vision EQXX – which can be seen in the video below – with little reservation. With a continuous OLED display as a dashboard and a focus on sustainable, natural materials in the interior, Mercedes is setting typical accents of e-mobility that hardly stand out from VW’s plans.

1,000 km no problem for e-cars: Mercedes cracks the magic limit

What is supposed to be revolutionary, however, is a feature that many consumers regard as one of the most important in e-cars. With over 1,000 km “real” range want to set standards in Stuttgart.

In this case, real means: The magic limit should not only be overcome on the test track according to the well-known WLTP standard, but also in actual use under real conditions. The Proof of this will be provided in the spring. If Mercedes keeps this promise, it is indeed a remarkable leap. With the electric predecessor EQS, which is already the range leader on the market, “only” up to 780 kilometers are possible.

The Vision EQXX has a drag coefficient of just 0.17 thanks to optimized aerodynamics. Light materials and construction as well as low-resistance tires support the range as well as that solar panel in the roof, which supplies power to some functions and ideally can contribute up to 25 km. The battery, optimized in terms of weight and size with an energy density of 200 Wh/kg, does the rest.

Mercedes introduces the Vision EQXX:

Not only does Mercedes outshine itself with a range of 1,000 km, but also e-car pioneer Tesla. Most recently, the Stuttgart-based company was ahead of the game when it came to level 3 approval for autonomous driving in Germany.

No chance for customers: EQXX should remain a concept

No statements are made about this. On the contrary, it is very unlikely that the concept electric car will even go on sale. Instead, you want the outwardly futuristic car show where the journey is going for Mercedes – and develop, test and fine-tune technologies that are then to be used in other electric models.
