Laura Enever is surfing her way into the record books: The Australian rode a huge, four-story wave in Hawaii.

Australian surfer Laura Enever has set a new world record. The 31-year-old surfed a 13.3 meter high wave, the largest wave ever paddled in by a woman.

Enever had already achieved the feat on January 22nd on the Oahu Outer Reef in Hawaii, as Guinness World Records announced on Thursday. The previous record of 12.8 meters, set by the Brazilian Andrea Moller, had stood for eight years.

Big wave surfers often use jet skis to be towed into big waves. However, Enever used the riskier method of paddling in under his own power and set the record in this category. “When that wave came, I was in the perfect place,” Enever told dem Sydney Morning Herald. «It was such a gift. I was so excited, there’s just no feeling like it.”

“When I started and looked down at the wall, I thought, ‘Holy crap, this is the biggest wave you’ve ever been on – just make it down, don’t fall up here,’” said Enever.
