Samsung is by far the biggest seller of smartphones in the last 10 years. An exceptional performance given its lead over the competition.
In the smartphone sector, Samsung and Apple have been competing very hard since the advent of these cell phones. And lately, it seemed like it was “each their turn” for the world number 1 spot, with Apple having had a very strong end to 2023, before Samsung took back the gold medal. But if in the short term, the fight seems close, in the long term, it is Samsung which is very far ahead of everything else!
Samsung is close to 3 billion smartphones sold
It’s hard to do better than Samsung in the smartphone sector. This is what this study shows AltIndex, which compiled global phone sales figures over the past decade. And as a result, Samsung blows everyone away, and by a long way.
The Seoul-based group has, between the first quarter of 2014 and the first quarter of 2024, sold 2.937 billion smartphones across the world. An impressive figure which can be explained in particular by the fact that Samsung sells phones of all ranges, from low-cost smartphones to premium devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Apple behind, and the rest even further behind
Behind, Apple’s performance still remains appreciable, despite the fact that the Cupertino company is far away, at 2.203 billion smartphones sold over the same period. Unlike Samsung, the American giant has only sold an average of four devices per year in recent years, which establishes the very special status of the brand.
We can also note that the three manufacturers following the leading duo represent between them the same sales volume as Samsung alone. Xiaomi (1.147 billion), Huawei (1.057 billion) and Oppo (911.9 million), three Chinese companies, follow Samsung and Apple – when Vivo (526.6 million) brings up the rear.
