Overlooked cable car – crash with small plane: pilot in Tyrol before Kadi

It was almost a miracle that both occupants survived! In the last Ötztal in Tyrol, an ultralight aircraft crashed last year because of a material cable car. The pilot (39) is said to have fallen below the minimum flight altitude and not planned the flight sufficiently. Now he was in court in Innsbruck.

“I wanted to show my buddy the Timmelsjoch from the air,” explained the accused. But the flight in mid-November almost ended in tragedy. The Frenchman living in Germany overlooked a material ropeway. The plane went into a spin and crashed at 2725 meters above sea level in alpine terrain. In particular, the pilot’s friend was seriously injured. Poor flight planning? The defendant replied that he had prepared himself very well. “But I used maps from German air traffic control for this, and the cable car wasn’t marked correctly.” Since the actual flight altitude could not be determined, the man was ultimately acquitted.
