Overwatch 2: As soon as the game is released, the first Overwatch will no longer be accessible

Now that we know its release date, things are starting to pick up speed aroundOverwatch 2and we now know more details about the game. While waiting to be able to get our hands on the title again via its next beta (which will start on June 28), Blizzard continues to refine the contours of the release of this second episode, and if October 4 will mark the beginning of a new era, it will definitely be necessary to say goodbye to the old one.

The merger of the two games is coming

You were hoping to be able to play Overwatch first of the name after the release of the second episode? Well put a cross on your project, because Overwatch will indeed disappear when Overwatch 2 will be posted.

He’s the director Aaron Keller who confirms it again on Reddit, although it had already been mentioned by Blizzard in the past. This time, no more doubts possible, we will have to say goodbye to Overwatch when the second episode is online. An update will certainly replace the game, and remember that Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play.

Is it possible to transfer currencies and lootboxes between the two games?

Given that it is changing its economic model, one wonders how Overwatch 2 will allow us to recover everything that we had harvested in the first.

Keller reassures us by telling us that the currencies that one currently possesses will be transferred directly to Overwatch 2but this will not be the case for lootboxes. If you have any, just before launch, these boxes will open automatically and you will receive all the content in your account. Note that even if you carry your change from the first Overwatch towards the second, they will not necessarily be usable throughout the game.

The PvP ofOverwatch 2 will be available on October 4 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.
