Overwatch 2: Blizzard continues its hunt for cheaters

Overwatch 2 arrived only a few months ago, but did not escape a phenomenon that all other online games are experiencing: cheating. Already present, it is a real scourge for all players and many complain about it. Faced with this problem, Blizzard has decided to take drastic measures that should be applied from the start of Season 3.

Tougher penalties against cheaters from the launch of season 3

In a recent press release on Blizzard’s website, the FPS developer has announced that it has already sanctioned more than 50,000 accounts who have been caught cheating. However, this is not enough and American society does not intend to stop there in his witch hunt. ” We recognize that cheating continues to be a major concern for many of our top players. […] In addition to taking action against cheaters, we want to discourage any inducement to profit from cheating. […] Starting in Season 3, we’ll identify players who regularly group up with those flagged for cheating, and they’ll also face penalties, even if they’re not cheating themselves. »

Why specifically target these people? Quite simply because they seek to obtain the same advantages as players who use cheat software, namely to win games and access an elo which they could never have achieved without resorting to illegal procedures. This contributes to creating totally unbalanced games and to dragging down players who have the merit of having reached a high level only thanks to their skills. on the game.

However, people who take advantage of other people’s cheats are harder to spot, because they look innocent at first glance. They cannot therefore be banned immediately and permanently. Nevertheless, sanctions will also be provided for them, as reported by Blizzard. ” We will issue severe suspensions for extended periods and, in extreme cases, outright bans, to those who knowingly play games with known cheaters. »

It only remains to hope that this works and that these penalties will be sufficiently dissuasive so that Overwatch 2 gets rid of its cheaters once and for all. However, it will be necessary to wait until February 7, 2023 before these measures are put in place and applied.
