Overwatch 2: new players will also need to unlock old Heroes

Overwatch 2 will be available next week, at least its modes pvp in free-to-play. We know, the first three new Hero will be playable immediately if you own Overwatchbut otherwise, you will have to climb to level 55 out of 80 to unlock Kirikothe new healer. This will also be the case for future Hero.

But obviously, Blizzard is struggling to find the right formula to attract new players. In a blog post entitled Defensive Matrix Activated, the developer details the first user experience that awaits new players in Overwatch 2 (i.e. those without Overwatch first name). The studio does not want to throw them directly into the bath and you will have to discover the game gradually to unlock game modes and even the possibility of communicating with your teammates. Yes, we are talking about team play… Once that’s done, you will have to play about a hundred games to unlock all the Hero from Overwatch 1, or the 32 characters already playable. It’s not about fashions Classified, which will have their own specific challenge for new players, or parties in groups of friends. Otherwise, to play in Ranked gamee, it will be necessary to complete 50 Quick matchesin order to avoid cheating and to offer a matchmaking more precise.

The blog post includes other interesting information, such as the removal of endorsement categories and the inability to endorse players from the opposing team. The level of recommendation will obviously be maintained, with experience for the Battlepass at high level. Furthermore, Blizzard details its new automatic system to detect and prevent disruptive behaviors like cheating and toxicity. An artificial intelligence will thus analyze the voice discussions after a report, discussions that will be stored for a month on the studio’s servers. If the AI detects a problem, a human will then intervene to validate the sanction.

Finally, Blizzard announces that SMS account protection will be mandatory for all Overwatch 2 players. As a reminder, all players must have an account Blizzard Battle.neteven on consoles, to enjoy the game free-to-playwhich must therefore be linked to a telephone number. The idea is to avoid multiple accounts for a single player, in order to more effectively ban reported players. Obviously, a phone number can only be linked to one account and certain types of numbers (prepaid, VOIP) will not be compatible.

With all this, Blizzard wants to offer a healthy gaming experience, but some choices are still very questionable. As a reminder, Overwatch 2 release date set for October 4, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. You can find products derived from the franchise on Amazon.
