Overwatch 2: Premium rewards overshadowing the Founder’s Pack?

This Thursday, June 16, 2022, fans finally got what they’ve been waiting for years now: new concrete information about Overwatch 2. For about forty minutes, the official conference was an opportunity to learn much more about the PvP which will be available in free-to-play on October 4, but also on PvE. Aaron Keller, the game’s current director, as well as several members of the development team took the opportunity to reveal exclusive information on the roadmap to come, the Battle Pass system, mythical skins, pendants or new maps. A cinematic for the Queen of Junkers was also shown but, in addition to the talk on YouTube, a lot of new information could be posted on the game’s official site.

Founder’s Pack and Premium Pack: what’s the difference?

If you follow Overwatch news closely, you might have been surprised to find that a new Pack is currently available on the game’s official website and it looks nothing like the Founder’s Pack revealed a few days earlier.

  • Founder’s Pack: A small gift pack offered to all former players who purchase Overwatch, the first of its name, before June 23, 2022. It contains an exclusive Sombra (Jester) skin, an exclusive Doomfist (General) skin, an icon exclusive profile and a surprise gift announced a few days before the game’s release.

  • Observatory Pack : a premium pack that anyone can buy now (old or new players) at 39.99€ which includes Overwatch Legendary Edition (with the 5 legendary models and the 5 exclusive epic models), the premium battle pass of Overwatch Season 2, Cassidy Space Raider Legendary Skin, Trooper Legendary Skin: 76 Space Raider, 2000 in-game credits and an exclusive OW2 profile icon. And above all, immediate access to the Overwatch 2 beta.

Why is this new premium pack causing debate?

While the content of this Pack is enticing, some web users and regular Overwatch players don’t see it very favorably. Why do you have to buy back the first game in order to benefit from all these bonuses? For those who already have Overwatch on their PC or Console, this can actually be confusing. In truth, it seems that the price to pay for the Observatory Pack does not really take into account the purchase of the first game which is only there as a “bonus”. We do not yet have all the details of the future monetization of Overwatch 2 but the 2000 credits offered with the Premium Pack could well cost between 15 and 20€ if we refer to League tokens for example. Added to this is the price of the Battle Pass Season 1 Premium which should be around 10€ or 15€ if we compare with other free-to-play games like Genshin Impact.

Fans are a little more disappointed by the comparison between the Founder’s Pack and this new Premium Pack, as if the players present for several years on the game, having already paid the €39.99, were not sufficiently rewarded. In the end, the choice is only up to the players: enjoy OW2 completely free from October 4, or buy the game for €39.99. A difficult choice since we do not yet know if the PvE will be a free update of OW2 in 2023 or if it will be a paid campaign. And you what do you think ?

After a first beta phase last April on Overwatch 2, a second will soon open its doors! Fans will have the opportunity to get their hands on La Reine des Junkers, which was almost more expected. Find out how to participate, who can play and when.
