Overwatch 2: What nerfs for Kiriko, Genji, Sombra and the heroes deemed “too strong”?


She was eagerly awaited and is still considered to have arrived rather late, the first update responsible for balancing certain heroes was announced yesterday for Overwatch 2. Scheduled only for November 15, it has already caused a lot of ink to flow on the networks as not being sufficient. For good reason, quite a few changes that we are going to list for you here.

What changes are expected in this patch?

– Hacking ability inhibit duration reduced from 1.75 to 1.5 seconds

– Hacked enemies are no longer considered hackable again for the duration of the effect

– Damage multiplier to hacked targets reduced from 40 to 25%

Genji

– Maximum ammo reduced from 30 to 24

– Shuriken damage reduced from 29 to 27

Comments: Genji has benefited greatly from the switch to 5v5. Now that there is only one tank and fewer movement impediments, Genji found himself with fewer obstacles in his path than before. […] These changes will bring Genji closer to his fellow flankers (Tracer, Reaper..)

Zarya

– Barrier duration reduced from 2.5 to 2 seconds

– Barrier cooldown increased from 10 to 11 seconds

Comments: […] Zarya felt like she had few windows of vulnerability, making her difficult to deal with on top of her growing damage potential.

D.va

– Fusio-Cannon spread increased from 3.5 to 3.75

– Turbojet impact damage reduced from 25 to 15

Comments: D.va seemed too powerful after the last changes received, being already very resilient with her improved Defensive Matrix. […]

Kiriko

– Swift Step invulnerability duration reduced from 0.4 to 0.25 seconds.

Comments: This invulnerability window was primarily designed to help avoid dying instantly after teleporting between walls, but it turned out to be a bit too long and confusing when aims at Kiriko.

Can we expect anything else for Overwatch 2?

After so much time since the release of the game and especially a release as November 15, we could have hoped for other changesincluding buffs and especially…

…the Sojourn case. It turns out to be very frustrating after a correct elo, in particular due to its ability to one shot too frequently. We could also have thought of buffs concerning Doomfist, the Queen of Junkers or Bouldozerthese characters being considered unplayable at this time.

Following the announcement of the patch, the lead designer of Overwatch 2 Alec Dawson answered questions on Twitter, and can reassure on certain points, in particular:

  • Changes planned for Doomfist in Season 2, and special attention to the Queen of Junkers and Bouldozer (source)
  • Expected changes for Sojourn, with the aim of nerfing it at high levels without affecting its potential at lower levels (source)
  • More support characters to come, their current amount being rather low (source)
  • Small changes planned for Symmetra in Season 2, and maybe a slight change to Moira’s kit (source)
  • Expected updates every month, this one should have arrived a bit sooner but the team ran into some issues (source)
