Overwatch 2’s new heroes will be free

When switching to Overwatch 2, Blizzard implemented a system immediately criticized by the community, since the new heroes (with the exception of the first two) were blocked behind a paywall (the Battle Pass Premium) or a long period of grinding. . Thus, players seeking to discover this new character had to make the choice of the paid Season Pass or to climb the different levels of the free Pass.

Asked about this, Aaron Keller responded that after listening to the community’s feedback and analyzing the evolution of the game, he considered that this solution was not relevant and that it gave too great a competitive advantage to players who had purchased the Battle Pass Premium.

From then on, when Venture arrives in Season 10, all the heroes released since the launch of OW2 will be accessible to all players. The only exception being for new accounts, who will still need to complete the learning phase before unlocking all the heroes in the game.

In addition, all future characters will also be available for free, similar to what was done in the first Overwatch opus. Enough to reconcile with a part of the community who had had a lot of difficulty with the release model.

Note, however, that the person responsible for Overwatch 2 confirmed that there would be no specific gift or reward for players who have unlocked the previous heroes via the various Battle Passes.
