Exit 6v6, make way for Overwatch 2’s new free-to-play combat system this Tuesday. In the meantime, the servers of the first Overwatch are closing this Monday evening.
Many of you have probably received an email or a notification on your services specifying that Overwatch first of the name was put on hold this October 3, 2022. Indeed, Blizzard will disable the servers today at 6 p.m. in Europe, to prepare for the launch of the sequel, Overwatch 2, this October 4 around 9 p.m. The announcement was planned so nothing surprising though:
About a day before the launch of Overwatch 2, we’re going to shut down the Overwatch 1 servers. So that means, in practice, October 2 is really the last day to launch and play Overwatch 1. And then there’s will have a 27-hour maintenance scheduled before the Overwatch 2 servers go live.
If you had played the first installment of the now Blizzard series, you will automatically get a Founder’s Pack in OW2, with the new character Kiriko integrated in addition to the other heroes already obtained. The rest will be free, as long as you’re not looking to get post-launch characters, since these will be unlockable only with the paid season pass.
If you want to play Overwatch 2 tomorrow, you can create a Battle.net account and download it from the official site since it’s free-to-play. It is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Switch.
