As expected with the upcoming arrival of Overwatch 2, Blizzard will stop selling loot boxes in Overwatch on August 30.
Blizzard, in the latest Overwatch patch note, announced that the Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 will be the last event before the launch of Overwatch 2. This event is an opportunity for players to collect cosmetics from previous anniversaries. However, the developers have confirmed that buying loot boxes will be done after the end of Anniversary Remix Vol. 3.
Thereby, August 30not only the current event will be closedbut also the ability to purchase these chests after the event ends. As a reminder, Overwatch 2 will abandon the loot box system and will be free-to-play. We currently do not know how Blizzard plans to monetize the gamebut it’s a safe bet that the title will have a Season Pass.
