Overwatch will be unplayable for a while for the launch of its sequel…


Good news for fans of the Blizzard license, Overwatch 2 is fast approaching and will be officially released on October 4th. The only hiccup within this idyll, players will have to say goodbye to Overwatch 1 on October 2. Indeed, the Blizzard Entertainment teams have just confirmed that a time of adaptation and finalization of the second opus of the license will be necessary between October 2 and 4, thus signing the end of the first game.

It’s not just goodbye

It’s official, the Overwatch 1 servers will be closed on October 2, to allow Blizzard developers to make the final changes to the second opus, which will see the light of day 27 hours later (according to the estimates of the ‘company). Blizzard Entertainment Chief Commercial Officer Jon Spector told Eurogamer : “From a practical perspective, October 2 will be the last day that players can play Overwatch 1”.

“We will give current Overwatch players the option to download Overwatch 2 shortly before launch, if they want to pre-download it. We will also ask players to do some things to prepare for Overwatch 2. We will share with them a kind checklist for the launch, so they can have a great experience on October 4, the launch date.”

An update to take it to the next level

Also according to Spector, players who already own the first installment of Blizzard’s license will be able to get Overwatch 2 through an update. On PC or console (Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch), they may notice a new tab called “Update game to Overwatch 2”. If you don’t have Overwatch 1, don’t worry, it will be possible to find the second game from October 4th, for download. free.

“So basically on October 2, Overwatch 1 has its last day; we’re down for 27 hours to allow our team to update all the servers to make sure the backend that’s supporting the launch of Overwatch 2 is ready to go, and then players can play on October 4. If they already have Overwatch 1, they will receive Overwatch 2 as a systems update.”

When released, Overwatch 2 will be fully optimal and players will be able to enjoy their experience to the fullest. Season 1 of Blizzard’s production will begin and for now only the PvP part of OW2 will be available. PvE will be added in 2023.
