OVHcloud announces the acquisition of its first quantum machine. This is the MosaiQ computer, equipped with a photonic processor and designed by the French Quandela. OVH intends to use this tool for R&D purposes.
“The group is stepping up its efforts on the subject of quantum computing and aims to provide its research and development teams with the appropriate tools to experiment with various use cases around a machine based on a QPU (Quantum Processing Unit) “says the company.
“This is the first QPU order for our startup and it is of course a milestone success after being the first European startup to connect a quantum computer to the public cloud,” said Quandela.
Computing power of 2 qubits
This first version will offer a computing power of 2 qubits.
“Quandela’s first customers are connecting to their QPU through OVHcloud. Quandela’s Perceval notebook is also available here for customers in the OVHcloud Public Cloud universe who wish to discover quantum emulation” adds the company.
The Quandela system, whose delivery is expected for the fall of 2023, should make it possible to benefit from a scalable platform thanks to the use of photonics. “Provided with a reconfigurable QPU, it is possible to quickly add new modules to increase computing capacities” indicates OVH.
Quandela’s technology comes straight out of the Center for Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies, located on the Paris-Saclay campus. The start-up was co-founded in 2017 by three researchers in electronics and optics, Pascale Senellart, research director at the Center for Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies of the CNRS and the University of Paris-Saclay, Valérian Giesz, engineer and doctor in quantum optics , and Niccolo Somaschi, PhD in semiconductor nanotechnology.
