Owners of Citroën C3 and others say stop and launch collective action for faulty engines

Thousands of owners of Citroën C3 and other cars with PureTech engines, who complain of defective engines and the consequences on their vehicle, want to obtain legal compensation.

Faced with problems of overconsumption of oil and mechanical failures, owners of Citroën C3 or other vehicles from the Stellantis group have decided to launch collective action to claim compensation. The automobile giant, owner of the French brand, had already carried out a recall in 2020 in France, to correct these problems. But dissatisfied drivers believe that the solutions proposed remain insufficient and are demanding more. After Mercedes-Benz, accused of deception on emissions, another major manufacturer finds itself in the spotlight.

8,700 angry motorists, demanding compensation from Stellantis and Citroën

Citroën C3 owner Michael is part of a group of more than 8,700 motorists facing similar problems, including overconsumption of oil, braking problems and engine failures. The manufacturer had already recalled 220,000 vehicles in France alone. But new recalls took place this summer.

Stellantis offers injured drivers compensation on a case-by-case basis, depending on the age and maintenance of the vehicle. This individual approach in any case does not suit owners, including Michael, many believing that the manufacturer is not doing enough to stem the problem. The latter is indeed looking for a long-term solution, rather than simple compensation.

The 8,700 motorists, tired of Citroën’s inaction, have therefore decided to launch collective action, at the initiative of lawyer Christophe Lèguevaques, who will try to obtain global compensation, as indicated RMC, who revealed the information. The lawyer explains that the objective is also to obtain concrete solutions, such as the repossession of vehicles and the replacement of engines, to ensure the safety of owners.

Stellantis’ proposal is not suitable for drivers

The Stellantis group reacted by offering Michael a voucher of 300 euros to have his problem of overconsumption of oil in his engine examined at an approved dealership. The manufacturer has also insisted on the fact that there is no design defect in the Puretech engine, which is being blamed here. He attributes the problems to “ certain driving conditions “.

Owners of vehicles equipped with an engine of this type are wondering about the next steps in the collective action and hope that the manufacturer will meet their expectations by definitively resolving the mechanical problems. Either way, the outcome of this action will have significant repercussions on how automakers handle issues with their vehicles.

With overconsumption of oil and mechanical breakdowns can result in exorbitant costs for drivers, we can’t really blame them for seeking redress today.
