Owners wanted – After bankruptcy, pigs are threatened with slaughter

After bankruptcy, there is now a risk of going to the slaughterhouse! 500 Mangalitza pigs are the animal victims of the insolvency of the “La Gioia” operation in eastern Styria: even baby animals are to be killed just because there is no money for feed. The liquidator is trying to avert this and is looking for new owners himself.

Of course, there is nothing to gloss over: at the end of a pig’s life there is usually death and a schnitzel. However, and this makes the big difference here: in this case it would be a mass slaughter for purely financial reasons. Of animals that are far from being “mature” and whose meat is mostly “wasted”. To be rejected for ethical reasons without question. And the liquidator would also like to prevent such a measure, “although we have no Dippel money for feeding,” says the Graz lawyer Paul Wunschek. His estimate: “That’ll be enough this week.” The pigs are the animal victims of the insolvency of the “La Gioia” business, which, as reported, resulted from the quarrels of the shareholders. 600 noble Mangalitza are already being fattened by farmers accommodated, “these have not yet seen any money,” says Wunschek. “We hope that everyone will continue to fatten up and get the meat proceeds later.” But then there are a good 500 other animals right on the farm. “A maximum of 60 of these are soon ready for slaughter.” Above all, nothing could be used from the piglets. Therefore, the lawyer himself is now looking for seriously interested parties. Wunschek: “Farmers should contact the office directly! The animals are available at a low price.” Requirement: adequate care, “You can’t just put Mangalitza in the stall. They need open space, good feed, time to grow.” Inquiries at: 0 664/235 15 24.
