Getting your tragus pierced: are there any risks?
Every piercing carries risks. Unfortunately, piercings that are pierced through cartilage tissue, like the case here, do not heal as quickly and easily as those that are pierced through soft tissue, like the earlobe.

In order for the piercing to heal quickly and there is no risk of inflammation, you need to be careful about what you do after the piercing. Here are our tips and recommendations:
- Do not touch or play with the tragus piercing. If you do, sanitize your hands well beforehand.
- Spray the piercing with a disinfectant spray 3 times a day (available in the piercing studio or here on Amazon).
- Avoid blood thinners like aspirin for the first few days to promote healing. Also protect the piercing from soap, shampoo and hairspray. To do this, you can apply a piece of adhesive tape to the piercing when you shower.
- Avoid visits to the swimming pool, solarium and sauna as well as certain sports (ball sports, gymnastics, …) for about 2 weeks.
- When sleeping, do not lie down directly on the piercing, it is better to turn to the other side, or sleep on your back or stomach.
- Watch out for hats, scarves or scarves, which can get caught in the piercing.
- Thoroughly clean any scabs with a compress of hot water and chamomile hydrosol, to soothe the area, and disinfect well afterwards.
