Painkiller is the Netflix series everyone is talking about today. The latter goes back to the origin of the opioid crisis in the United States and the way in which, since the 1990s, pharmaceutical lobbies have greatly encouraged general practitioners to prescribe painkillers based on opiate derivatives, creating addiction.
Although it is inspired by real events and highlights at the beginning of each episode the testimony of a person who has lost someone in this war against drugs, Painkiller is nonetheless a fiction. But one can wonder if certain characters really existed, like the heroine camped by the brilliant Uzo Aduba.

In Painkiller, the former Orange Is the New Black actress plays Edie Flowers, an FBI investigator who uncovers how Purdue Pharma convinced thousands of doctors to prescribe her drug, Oxycontin. She is seen testifying in front of the legal team responsible for prosecuting the pharmaceutical company.
In interview given to NetflixUzo Aduba confirmed that his character did not actually exist but clarified: “Edie Flowers is the sum of all investigators. Mixing fiction and reality makes the series even more believable and impactfulAs a reminder, the series is taken from the book “Pain Killer” written by Barry Meier in 2003 and from the New Yorker article “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden Keefe.
