It is very likely that editing images in the native applications of Windows 11 is evolving considerably, thanks to the significant integration of generative AI into the Microsoft ecosystem.

This might be one of the most important evolutions that Paint has seen in many years.

DALL-E soon integrated into Paint

You might think that some things will never really change. While Microsoft’s flagship image-editing application has undergone many changes since PaintBrush first appeared in 1985, it has remained true to its original ethos. At least until soon, because the Redmond giant’s desire to add AI everywhere could also concern Paint. Windows Central reports, in fact, that it will soon be possible to generate illustrations using textual commands.

Sources told the American media that the application could use the same technology as Bing’s Image Creator, powered by DALL-E. In the screenshot provided by Windows Centralwe can see that the tool is accessible thanks to a button ” MagicPaint and a side panel that allows you to enter a description of the image. Once generated, it can be added to the current project and modified.

A slightly more modern experience on Windows

The Photos app, camera, and snipping tool should also get some improvements. The first might be able to identify people or objects in a snapshot, in order to cut them out and paste them in another area or export them to another project. The other two, on the other hand, would be able to identify text in photos and screenshots, to then be able to copy and paste it elsewhere.

Microsoft could thus bring up to date applications that really need to be refreshed. Here we find features that some native Android or iOS applications already have, or available on many tools on the Web. You get used to it gradually, and it is true that desktop operating systems are still far behind the pack in this area.

But be careful, we still don’t know if the American firm will launch all these improvements, or if it will deploy them as such. We may know a little more during the deployment this fall of Copilot, the AI tool that will soon accompany Windows users.
