GAZA (Reuters) – The Palestinian Red Crescent accused Israel on Friday of a drone attack on a hospital in Khan Younes, the main city in the south of the Gaza Strip where Israeli assaults threaten the few health facilities still in working order.

According to the Red Crescent, Palestinians displaced by the fighting were injured “due to intense fire from Israeli drones targeting citizens in the Al Amal hospital” and in the humanitarian organization’s base.

Israeli tanks also approached the Nasser hospital, also in Khan Younes, where witnesses said they heard artillery fire further west. Nasser Hospital is the largest operating hospital in Gaza.

Israel accuses Hamas fighters of sheltering in hospitals, which hospital staff deny.

The Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by Hamas, reported on Friday 142 Palestinians killed and 278 others injured in 24 hours, which according to it brings the toll of the Israeli offensive to 24,762 dead.

Israel launched this offensive following a Hamas attack on October 7 in the south of its territory, which left around 1,200 dead.
