Palestinian teenager killed by Israeli soldier

Montaser Mohammad Theeb Shawa, a 16-year-old Palestinian, died Monday (February 20th) of his wounds just under two weeks after being hit in the head by Israeli fire in the Balata camp, near Nablus, in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli army said in a statement that on the evening of February 8 “armed men” fired on soldiers securing the entrance of Jewish worshipers to the site of Joseph’s tomb in the Nablus area. The soldiers responded with “real shots”injuring one person, the statement said.

Since the beginning of the year, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has claimed the lives of forty-nine Palestinians (including members of armed groups and civilians, including minors), nine Israeli civilians (including three minors) and a Ukrainian, according to an AFP count compiled from official Israeli and Palestinian sources.
