Pan Tau: New episodes of the cult series are coming in autumn

In autumn the story of the silent magician "Pan Tau" finally continues.

"Pan Tau" will be back in autumn! As Das Erste and Caligari Film announced on Monday, the new edition of the 1970s cult series will be shown on German television in a few weeks. Accordingly, it should be a contemporary adaptation of the originally Czech series with the silent title hero with a suit and bowler hat. The English comedian Matt Edwards (45) slips into the role of the cult figure.

The 14 new episodes, produced by Caligari Film in co-production with ARD under the direction of WDR and with participation of MDR, were shot in English with German and English actors in Germany. Among others, Valerie Niehaus (45), Armin Rohde (65), Katharina Wackernagel (41), Bettina Lamprecht (43), Sophie von Kessel (51), Helmfried von Lüttichau (63) or Tom Gerhardt (62) in episode roles to be seen.

From the original children's series, 33 episodes were shot between 1970 and 1978. At that time it was a co-production of WDR with the Czech broadcaster CST. The star of the series was the Czechoslovakian pantomime Otto Simánek, who died in 1992 in Prague, his adopted home, at the age of 67. In 1988 he slipped into his prime role of the silent magician for the cinema adaptation "Pan Tau – The Film" for the last time.
