Panasonic: a microlens Oled TV and a first Oled model under Google TV!

The Panasonic MZ2000 television with its Oled Meta panel (microlenses) and its Dolby Atmos sound system.

Panasonic’s Oled TV range is decidedly well segmented in 2023, since only the Panasonic MZ2000 will use LG Display’s new Oled Meta panel embedding billions of microlenses intended to impressively increase the brightness of Oled technology (see test of the LG 65G3). This panel is called Master Oled Ultimate at Panasonic. For the rest, we find characteristics very close to last year’s LZ2000, in particular with its high-performance Dolby Atmos audio system. This model will be available in 55, 65 and 77 inch versions, but only the 55 and 65 inch versions will be equipped with an Oled Meta panel (microlenses).

The Panasonic MZ1500 has an Oled EX panel using a cooling system identical to that of last year's LZ1500.

In previous years, the Panasonic 1500 model used the slab of the 2000 model while ignoring the audio system. This is not the case this year, since the Panasonic MZ1500 is satisfied with a Master Oled Pro panel identical to that of the LZ1500 that we tested. The peak of brightness should be very good for an Oled model, since it was 1101 cd / m² on the LZ1500 that we tested, without however equaling the 1460 cd / m² of the new Oled Meta panel. The Panasonic MZ1500 is available in 42, 48, 55 and 65 inches, but only the 55 and 65 inch models are equipped with a brighter panel.

The Panasonic MZ980 television has the same HCX Pro AI processor as the high-end models, but is content with a classic Oled EX panel, without a specific cooling system to boost the brightness. The peak brightness should reach around 800 cd/m². Like the top-of-the-range models, it has the new Game Mode Extreme supposed to reduce the delay to the display to the maximum and offers a dedicated game menu to display information (frames per second, definition, etc.) and specific settings ( VRR, etc.). It is also AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync compatible, in addition to VRR thanks to the HDMI 2.1 port (4K 120 Hz, VRR, ALLM). All these models have the MyHomeScreen 8.0 home system.

The Panasonic MZ800 will be the first OLED TV from the manufacturer to feature Google TV, providing access to all applications from the Google Play Store, the Google voice assistant and Chromecast functionality. Problem, it is satisfied with an Oled 50/60 Hz panel and therefore an HDMI 2.1 ALLM eARC connection devoid of 4K 120 Hz (useless with this panel). The 4K Color Engine Pro video processor is also a little less powerful. Input lag is reduced, but it is not VRR, FreeSync and G-Sync compatible. This model is available in 42, 48, 55 and 65 inch versions.
