While photo boxes are more and more capable in video, Panasonic is launching two new cameras dedicated specifically to the uses of videographers.
If cameras are more and more capable in the field of video, especially the most high-end boxes, dedicated cameras still retain many advantages, whether in terms of modularity or ergonomics.
In parallel with its boxes specialized in video – we think of the Lumix GH6, Lumix GH5 II, Lumix S5, Lumix BS1H or Lumix BGH1 – the Japanese manufacturer has just unveiled two new cameras dedicated to professionals and semi-professionals of the image , the Panasonic HC-X2 and HC-X20.
Two all-in-one cameras
These two relatively compact cameras share many common characteristics. Both are all-in-one cameras. Like a compact camera, they carry not only a sensor, but also a lens that cannot be replaced.
Here, for both models, it is a type 1 image sensor with a definition of 15.03 megapixels, sufficient to capture sequences in 4K. The associated lens is a 24.5 – 490 mm equivalent zoom (f/2.8-4.5), effective not only for wide-angle sequences but also for long focal lengths.
In addition, both cameras are capable of recording video footage in 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 60p or 4:2:0 10-bit 4K 30p. They also benefit from a slow motion recording mode in Full HD at 120 p. The H265 video codec is also available on both models. Note also the presence, on the HC-X2 as on the HC-X20, of a tilting electronic viewfinder displaying 2.36 million points and a touch-sensitive and tilting LCD screen of 2.76 million points with a diagonal of 3.5 inches.
However, if the Panasonic HC-X2 is able to record video sequences in V-Log with a dynamic range of 13 stops, this is not the case with the HC-X20. This more accessible model does not offer a picture profile flat, but focuses more on connected functions with the possibility of streaming in high definition thanks to the integration of a Wi-Fi module. Functions also integrated into the high-end version. The HC-X2 also does not offer a function of time code to automatically synchronize video sequences in a push production.
The two Panasonic cameras will be available in November 2022 at a price of 2499 euros for the HC-X20 and 3199 euros for the HC-X2.
A bright wide-angle lens for full-frame Lumix cameras
In addition to the two cameras, Panasonic also announced this Wednesday, in the field of images, a new photo lens for its full-frame mirrorless cameras, the Panasonic Lumix S1 and Lumix S5.
It is an 18 mm wide-angle lens opening at f / 1.8, ideal for landscape photography, or even star photography.
This Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 will be available from October at a price of 999 euros.
