Due to the corona pandemic, the carnival cannot take place as usual in 2021. So jesters can still celebrate the fifth season.

Large carnival parades and celebrations with thousands of people on site are not possible in 2021 due to the still rampant corona pandemic. But that doesn't stop a real jerk! There are numerous ways to celebrate the fifth season responsibly in compliance with the applicable requirements – for example with your partner or family. Here are some of the alternatives on offer.

Not just at Carnival

The initiative "Mer looße üch nit alone" (high German: "We don't leave you alone"), in cooperation with Telekom, not only supports people in distress due to the cancellation of carnival meetings and parties, but also organizes Weiberfastnacht (February 11) also a large live show that is broadcast via a live stream on the station #DABEI on MagentaTV or on MagentaTv.de from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Carnival fans also have the opportunity to donate there. So far, more than 435,000 euros have been raised. The donations go to stage workers, dance groups, marching bands, drivers and artists.

Corona-compliant, countless carnival stars will appear on the stage in Cologne's Lanxess Arena, including the Bläck Fööss, who are on stage with Wolfgang Niedecken (69, BAP) and certainly also their hit "Mer losse d'r Dom en Kölle "will perform. Also planned are performances by Höhner, Cat Ballou, Bernd Stelter (59) and the Cologne triumvirate. Mirja Boes (49) and Guido Cantz (49) will moderate the event. "This will be the event of the year", Cantz says happily in advance. And Boes announces: "We're turning the whole place on the left!"

A little Rose Monday procession

Under the motto "Nur zesamme sin mer Fastelovend" ("Only together we are carnival") the Rose Monday procession will also take place in an unusual form. According to the Cologne city portal, around 12,000 participants usually roam the streets for more than five hours from 10:00 a.m., handing out up to 300 tons of sweets and 300,000 bouquets of flowers.

In 2021, the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee will instead organize a miniature train in cooperation with the Hänneschen Theater. 177 dolls will be used over 32 meters. Everything that makes a Rose Monday procession should be included – including the Blue Sparks, bands, dance groups, the triumvirate and lovingly designed Persiflagewagen. The whole thing will be broadcast on February 15th on WDR from 2:00 p.m. The show "Rose Monday in Cologne: The most unusual 'Zoch'!" will again moderate Cantz, at his side this time Monika Salchert.

Carnival hits on a loop

In November, the Aachen Carnival Festival Committee launched the Internet radio "Radio Alaaf". There are still matching hits and interviews around the clock until Ash Wednesday. Recently the marauders were among the guests. Why not have a carnival party via video chat or conference and let the transmitter run in the background?

At "jeckstream.de" there is now access to numerous sessions, including the 2021 puppet session at the Hänneschen Theater. Purchased tickets are generally valid until February 16. You can also create your own sessions. In addition, users can book different acts, including Markus Krebs (50), Martin Schopps and Brings. Artists and bands receive a share of the price paid for the package booked.

The Mainz Carneval Association has set up a media library. There you can see the first digital MCV carnival show from February 7th and another show is planned for February 14th from 5:11 pm. In addition, the Mainz Carnival skewers 2021 will be offered until February 16.

The BonnLive Carnival Concerts in Bonn and Cologne will also take place until February 16 – subject to compliance with the prescribed measures. As in a conventional concert, artists and bands such as Miljö or Kasalla appear on a stage, while the audience who traveled by car remains in the car. The music comes via the car radio, and the performances can also be seen on a large LED wall.
