Panel discussion – Documentary: The cruel system of live animal transport

The short documentary “Animal Suffering on Wheels” shows impressively how important it is to have a strong animal welfare policy and to uncover abuses in animal transport. The Green MEP Thomas Waitz now invites you to a film screening followed by a discussion in Vienna and Graz.

In years of work, the Greens in the European Parliament fought for the establishment of a sub-committee on animal transport and proved that there is a system to animal suffering during transport. The documentary accompanies Thomas Waitz in his work in the U-Committee, gives NGOs a voice and shows the cruel reality of the global agricultural system. Strengthen farmersThomas Waitz explains clearly: “We all know the horrific images of torturous animal transports, but very few know how unnecessary this animal cruelty actually is. Austria could cover almost the entire meat needs of its population itself. Just one example: in 2020 around 94,000 cattle exported from Austria and 92,000 cattle imported to Austria – why actually?A big reason is that agriculture in Europe is geared towards export. Regional production and enjoyment is left behind. Small farmers in Austria are disadvantaged by EU subsidies and are under great financial pressure.”,
