Paper toothbrush
Shocking images of plastic waste have been widely circulated in recent years, symbolizing the overconsumption of disposable items around the world. Faced with this scourge, the Ukrainian company Effa manufactures toothbrushes and razors made mainly from paper, even if they contain recyclable metals or plastic. “We are fighting global plastic pollution by making environmentally friendly disposable items,” says Anna Sulim, the start-up’s chief marketing officer. The toothbrush and razor head is made of plastic, but it can be removed and recycled, while the handle can be composted.
Ammonia fuel
To reduce humanity’s dependence on fossil fuels, which contribute to global warming, alternatives are essential. From renewable energies to biomass and hydrogen, there are already many options. Ammonia could be one more.
“We are developing a technology which transforms ammonia into renewable fuel, in particular for uses in land, maritime and transport heavy industry”, explains Allison Agre, spokesperson for Amogy, a start-up based in the States. -United. The machine developed by the company isolates hydrogen molecules from ammonia, which can be used in fuel cells that operate similar to that of a battery. “It’s easy to transport and store. There is already an integrated infrastructure,” describes Allison Agre, noting that the technology is currently at the prototype stage.

Better recycle
A home recycling center? This is the idea of Lasso Loop Recycling. The start-up designs a machine that cleans and stores recyclable waste and looks like a household appliance. “Every year, millions of tons of plastic, glass and other useful materials end up in landfills or are dumped in rivers and oceans,” read the company’s website. “Co-founders Aldous Hicks and Alison Richardson believed there was a more efficient way and created the Lasso System.”
