Already awarded numerous titles, Paper Trail is a puzzle game with a very unique appearance. Newfangled Games not only wanted to create a drawing, but cleverly uses paper to create puzzles. After a demo that left an impression on us, the game is finally coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series, Nintendo Switch and the Netflix mobile application on May 21.
In a 2D world that we see from the sky, what we see is not always reliable. Even more so when the leaf that creates this world can be folded in all directions to reveal new secrets. Playing Paige, a future university student, the adventure leads us to discover different environments. All made of paper, full of puzzles and obstacles to be solved by bending to the will of the developers.
It is with a simple but well-prepared concept that Newfangled Games surprises. Paper Trail is as beautiful as it is intriguing, offering effective but not always obvious puzzles. Folding reveals a universe of possibilities in which it is easy to get lost but which remains pleasant to explore. If we haven’t yet made origami to solve a puzzle, we’re not that far away.
