Available on Netflix since July 27, the German science fiction film “Paradise” quickly rose to the platform’s top 10 films. As its plot becomes more complex towards the end, let’s take stock of the ending.
We felt that this film was going to find its audience. Last Thursday, Netflix released Paradise, a German science fiction film whose pitch has everything to please Black Mirror fans.
It follows a couple, Max (Kostja Ullmann) and Elena (Marlene Tanczik), in a not so distant dystopian future where the years of life have become a commodity that can be sold for large sums of money.
It was AEON, a new tech giant headed by Sophie Theissen (Iris Berben), who discovered this revolutionary process. The story begins with Max, a happy employee at AEON. He is even their best commercial.
But very quickly, her idyllic little life changes. But let’s move on to the course of the plot to focus on the conclusion of the film.
Why are Max and Elena splitting up?
The terrorist group Adam intervenes in Max and Elena’s escape to kill Sophie Theissen. The presence of Marie (Lisa-Marie Koroll) — whom Max and Elena hold hostage, initially thinking it’s Sophie — is the perfect way for the Adam group to get Sophie’s and the girl’s attention. trap.
In the meantime, they put a gun in Elena’s hands ordering her to shoot Marie. To them, taking someone’s years is like taking their life. So they want Elena to understand what she’s really doing. And Elena puts the gun down.
Max walks out in front of the hotel and tells AEON’s task force that he wants to talk to Sophie one-on-one, but Kaya (Lorna Ishema), his “old friend” and bodyguard, guesses he’s gone. acts as a trap.
Before she can do anything, Nowak (Numan Acar) – the new bodyguard who asks far too many questions – shoots Sophie and bullets fly in all directions. Nowak was part of the Adam group from the beginning and he managed to infiltrate the AEON company to get closer to Sophie Theissen.
Seeing people die before her eyes, Elena, who is a doctor, tells herself that she has not done enough in life and that she has dreamed of many things for herself and Max. On the other hand, Max doesn’t want to hurt Marie anymore because he thinks Sophie is dead, and there’s no way Marie can get her years back if Elena takes them away.
With their conflicting opinions, the tone rises and Elena leaves Max on the side of the road. And she takes Marie to the place where the doctor is. She has an operation and runs away, leaving Marie alone in the middle of nowhere. Meanwhile, Max finds his way to a refugee camp and is shocked by its gigantic size.
The underground doctor – who illegally transferred years of Marie’s life to Elena – uses children from the camp to get donations. Fortunately, a truck driver finds Marie and brings her back to her mother, who looks younger than ever.
Marie and Sophie are compatible because they share the same DNA, but Sophie’s ambitions prevent her from giving up her 40 years to Marie. She is corrupted by her greed and doesn’t even want to save her own daughter.

Ironically, she began her search to save her first daughter, who was suffering from progeria, an extremely rare genetic disease also nicknamed “Benjamin Button Syndrome”, which causes accelerated aging in children who have it and considerably reduces their life expectancy. of life.
Kaya eventually quits, seeing that Sophie has hurt and killed so many people just so she can regain her youth and become the most powerful woman in Europe. It is clear that she was the one who set fire to Max and Elena’s apartment because the latter was compatible with Sophie.
But since Max had fallen in love with her when he went to recruit her, she didn’t sign on to sell her youth at that time. She did this later, behind Max’s back, to get their apartment loaned.
At the end of Paradise, we see Max observing a woman from afar who is by the sea. She is standing there, in a white dress. It’s Elena. She has regained her youth, and she is pregnant with another man. Max sees them together and walks away towards a car full of armed people.
Ultimately, he joined the Adam Group because he now sees that companies like AEON and illegal doctors will continue to exploit the poor for their “time”. He is now ready to fight this injustice.
Presumably Max was there to kill Elena, but he spares her because he wants to be a good person and she’s pregnant.
In the end, Elena built the life Max wanted with her, but she did it with someone else. However, Max is at fault for making her believe that AEON wouldn’t hurt them.
