Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes separate

After a 5-year collaboration, the Swedish publisher Paradox Interactive and the American studio Harebrained Schemes have decided to continue their journey separately. A separation announced by the two companies through a press release.

Paradox explains, among other things, that this separation is the result of mutual agreement and that it will be effective from January 1, 2024. But if the decision seems common to both parties, this news arrives in an already very complicated context. for Harebrained Schemes.

Last summer, the studio, known for its trilogy
Shadowrun, notably suffered the full force of a wave of layoffs causing it to lose a large part of its workforce. Added to this is the recent commercial failure of the infiltration and strategy game The Lamplighters League. The negative impact of the title on Paradox’s financial results ended up burying the relationship between the publisher and Harebrained Schemes.

And if the studio will continue to follow up on The Lamplighters League until the end of the year, however, Paradox Interactive will retain the rights to the strategy game. As well as all other games developed by Harebrained Schemes. The studio, for its part, is already seeking new financing and partnerships to ensure a more serene future in 2024.
