The 2020 Paralympic Games will take place in Tokyo, Japan, from August 24th to September 5th. On the day of the opening of the international sports competition, several royals wished the participating athletes good luck via social media. Above all: Prince William and Duchess Kate (both 39).

William and Kate look forward to seeing “the talent and ability” of the athletes

“We can’t wait to see the talent and skill that will be on display over the next two weeks,” wrote the eldest son of Prince Charles (72) and the late Princess Diana (1961-1997) and his wife on Tuesday (August 24th) on Twitter. In addition to the Paralympic team in their home country Great Britain and Northern Ireland, they wished “all athletes from all over the world” the best of luck in the games, which had to be postponed for a year due to the corona pandemic.

Prince Williams’ aunt Princess Anne (71) and his uncle Prince Edward (57) had also sent the athletes good wishes for the competition – the latter on Friday (August 20) as patron of the British Paralympic team. “We want you to go out there and do your best,” says the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II (95) and her late Prince Consort Philip (1921-2021) also on Twitter quoted. “Make us proud and inspire the next generation of disabled athletes.”

Crown Princess Victoria and her children wave Swedish flags

Not only the British athletes can look forward to royal support from home, but also the Swedish. The royal family’s official Instagram account also shared a photo on the day of the opening ceremony in Tokyo, on which Crown Princess Victoria (44) can be seen with her children Princess Estelle (9) and Prince Oscar (5). They happily wave the Swedish flag and wear t-shirts in the national colors. “I would like to convey my warmest wishes for the whole Swedish team for their well-being,” reads next to the snapshot. “Now when you start the hunt for your medals, you should know that many of us here at home are cheering you on and are proud that you represent our country. Let’s go, Sweden!”
