Paramount’s streaming platform is in great shape, and welcomed more than 700,000 new subscribers during the second quarter.

At the beginning of the year, the Paramount+ platform absorbed Showtime, to integrate it into its Premium offer.

The rise of Paramount+

Available for just over 2 years now, the Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) service continues to expand, following a gradual rollout in Europe last year. Despite fierce competition to say the least, the latest results communicated by the American giant are very positive, with today more than 61 million subscribers worldwide.

The group thus indicates that it has welcomed more than 700,000 new subscribers in one quarter, following the recent merger with another American giant: Showtime. ” With Showtime content integrated into our flagship streaming service, Paramount+ will become the ultimate cross-platform brand in the streaming space. “, explained then Bob Bakish, CEO of Paramount Global.

A clear progression, despite various price increases

The new formula displayed at $11.99/month, with Showtime, replaced the initial premium subscription without advertising, then billed at $9.99/month. Recall that at the same time, Paramount also increased the prices of its Essential offer (with advertising) from $4.99 to $5.99 per month.

Paramount+ is in great shape in terms of subscribers, but also in terms of viewing hours, which have increased by 35% over the period, also taking into account the Pluto TV platform.

Enough to allow Paramount Global to post a turnover of 1.67 billion dollars for all of its services. direct-to-consumer “, streaming activities representing no less than 1.23 billion. The company wants to be confident for the rest of the events, with in particular various launches planned on new markets, including Australia.

By way of comparison, Netflix has more than 220 million subscribers, compared to 200 million for Amazon Prime Video and around 160 million for Disney+, which has (like its competitors) already carried out various purges in terms of the content in its catalog.
