(Boursier.com) — Paramount Global retains the rights to the Champions League in the United States. To keep the most prestigious club football competition in its purse, the owner of the CBS network and the Paramount + streaming service would have agreed to pay more than 1.5 billion dollars over six years. According to people familiar with the matter quoted by ‘Bloomberg’, Paramount will pay around $250 million per season over the 2024-2030 period, compared to around $100 million per year under the old deal.

Before reaching an agreement with Paramount, UEFA would have had preliminary discussions with NBC, ESPN of Walt Disney, Amazon.com, Apple, Fox, Warner Bros and Discovery, Univision and DAZN, according to agency sources. As the United States hosts the World Cup in 2026, football is attracting more and more interest in the land of American football and basketball.

In November, NBC (Comcast) has invested more than $2.5 billion over six years to retain US rights to broadcast English Premier League games. An amount almost three times higher than the previous agreement. Apple is paying a minimum guarantee of $250 million a year for the rights to Major League Soccer, also nearly triple the value of the earlier deal, according to the Sports Business Journal.
