Released in theaters in 2020, the feature film Parents of students is centered on the daily life of parents, but the latter would be nothing on the screen without the students. To make the performance of the young actors who embody them credible, the director Noémie Saglio, who had already directed children in her short films, used a rather special method.
For Parents of Students, the one to whom we also owe the Connasse and Plan Coeur series, had the children do improvisations in the presence of their parents, based on everyday life situations, observing their way of moving and their ease in exercising. At his side to help him, the casting director Adélaïde Mauverney.
“I spent a lot of time with the little boy who plays Bart (Oscar Pauleau, editor’s note). On the set, we were shooting with two cameras to catch little moments”says Noémie Saglio. “Amour, the coach, really helped me to get the best out of each child. This woman was a very precious help in finding the correctness in their game.”
And Noémie Saglio concludes: “I relied a lot on the coach, especially since there were twenty children and twenty adults to direct on this shoot, and we shot during the July 2019 heat wave! With each child, we worked on the way of walking and the problems of their characters.”
