Paris: 3 arrests at the Goutte d’Or after clashes between the police and a gang of young people


In the Goutte d’Or, a working-class district in eastern Paris, clashes pitted police officers against a gang of young people on Monday evening, we learn.

No injuries are reported. Three young people identified by CCTV cameras were arrested and then taken into custody.

The security forces were the target of fireworks mortar fire. “People were screaming and running in the street. It’s scary, ”says a local resident to CNEWS.

On images filmed by residents of the neighborhood, rockets can be seen ricocheting off the facades of buildings and the windows of apartments.

To believe the testimonies of the inhabitants, this type of facts would be commonplace. The place acts as a bad student in terms of insecurity in Paris, the gangs of traffickers having a storefront there.

In July 2021, nine individuals had been arrested for drug trafficking. This growing feeling of insecurity had also prompted the library team to exercise its right of withdrawal at the end of 2020.

A few months later, the cultural place was able to reopen its doors under the surveillance of the police deployed in large numbers in the street.
