Paris charges parking for motorized two-wheelers, except electric scooters and motorcycles


After cars, the City of Paris intends to gradually drive out thermal two-wheelers from its city center. It has just confirmed the entry into force on September 1 of paid parking for non-electric motorcycles and scooters.

The City of Paris confirms that from September 1, 2022, parking will become chargeable in the capital for motorcycles and scooters with internal combustion engines. Electric two-wheelers will be able to continue to park for free in the capital, with a daily virtual ticket to be taken on mobile apps. It should be noted that people with disabilities and home care professionals will also be able – under certain conditions – to park for free.

This measure aims to encourage motorcyclists and scooter riders to use a less polluting mode of transport. It’s such a terribly dissuasive decision to continue riding on this type of two-wheeler in Paris. In the same way as cars, thermal two-wheelers therefore find themselves in the storm.

42,000 parking spaces

The city of Paris now has 42,000 parking spaces dedicated to motorized two-wheelers. It is strictly forbidden to park on the sidewalks or in spaces reserved for bicycles, under penalty of fine and removal.

And to dissuade Ile-de-France residents from riding a motorcycle or thermal scooter in Paris, the Municipality has opted for high prices, to be paid via parking meters or dedicated mobile applications. Parking is chargeable throughout the year, every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., excluding Sundays and public holidays.

Residents can take out a subscription in order to benefit from a preferential rate of €0.75 per day or €4.50 per week. This subscription costs €22.50 per year (or €45 for three years). Professionals can claim various subscriptions at preferential rates, depending on their activity and domicile. Finally, “visitors” will have to pay a flat rate ranging from €2 (for one hour of parking) to €37.50 (for six hours), depending on the duration and the district concerned.

It is up to Parisians to do the calculation if the purchase of an electric two-wheeler would not be (much) more economical. For everyday use, the answer should be positive.
