Paris close: up slightly, gold and bitcoin are still accelerating

Down slightly this morning, the CAC40 ultimately ended up 0.28% at 7,956 points. The rankings have remained fairly calm, while company publications are coming to an end, while awaiting this week the numerical announcements from Thales, Vivendi, JC Decaux, SCOR, Spie and even CGG… This morning, a new record is came from Japan where the Nikkei exceeded 40,000 points for the first time in its history, finishing at 40,109.23 points. Gold peaks at $2,118 per ounce, while bitcoin is also heading back towards its 2021 highs of $66,250.

Expectations of a rate cut, thwarted at the start of the year, could further evolve this week with the European Central Bank’s monetary policy meeting on Thursday. A status quo on rates is widely expected, but Christine Lagarde’s comments should still be studied closely. On the American side, the first rate cut remains anticipated for the Fed meeting on June 12 according to the CME Fedwatch barometer…

Concerning oil, the members of OPEC and their allies gathered within OPEC+ agreed on Sunday on an extension of the current agreement relating to the reduction of crude production until the end of the second quarter of 2024 in order to avoid an “oversupply” of crude. The price of Brent only reacted marginally below $83.50 per barrel.

Crossroads (+0.5%) specified that its new share buyback program covering a maximum amount of 700 million euros would be executed in several tranches… Carrefour announces that it has entrusted an investment service provider with share buyback mandate. The purchase period will open on Monday March 4, 2024 and the purchased shares will be held for cancellation.

Phaxiam : -+% followed by Clariane (-6.5%) and Nacon

Atos : -5.7% with BigBen

Fourth consecutive session of decline also for Bonduelle which falls below 9 euros (-5.7%). Despite a consumer climate under pressure, the group nevertheless confirmed last week its objectives of turnover growth of around 5% and progression in current operating income of around 15%, on a like-for-like basis.

Euroapi : -5% followed by Valneva (-4%) and MdM

Fourth consecutive session in the red for Air France KLM which fell 3.9% below 10 euros this Monday and brought its losses since January 1 to more than 25%. Analysts continue to adjust the file after the airline’s annual publication. Stifel thus reduces the target from 22 to 18 euros but confirms its ‘purchase’ opinion…
