On the occasion of the launch of its new subscription, the transport rental company Lime has just presented its latest study on “Vélotaf”, an increasingly popular practice in major cities around the world.

Does “vélotaf” mean anything to you? If not, know that this term has been used since the early 2000s to designate a simple practice: use your bike to get to work. In recent years, commuting has become particularly popular in large cities. There are many reasons to abandon the car in favor of the bicycle:

  • reduce your ecological footprint
  • save money on fuel costs
  • the benefits brought to our health (reduction of stress, improvement of general mood, etc.)
  • less time spent in transport

Of course, “vélotaf” first developed primarily in large metropolises which promote the use of two wheels, in particular through adapted infrastructure (cycle paths, car-free zones, etc.).

Paris is in the Top 10 cities in the world for commuters

According to the latest study by Lime, a leading provider of self-service electric scooters and bikes, Paris is currently in the TOP 10 of the most “cycling” cities. More precisely, the City of Lights is in 7th position. According to this report carried out on a sample of 8,807 people, 68% of bicycle journeys made daily in the capital are home-work connections.

For the Parisians interviewed, Vélotaf presents multiple virtues:

  • 93% feel like they are taking action on the environment
  • 70% feel civic pride
  • 75% find this means of transport more accessible
  • 62% find that this means facilitates access to work
  • 91% feel the positive effects on their city
  • 45% feel more productive at work
  • 45% feel more focused at work

According to Lime, 64% of Parisian commuters are men (36% women). Unsurprisingly, the 1st arrondissement of Paris is the one with the most practitioners. Note that Lime’s publication of this study is not innocent.

In fact, the company took advantage of the opportunity to highlight its new Vélotaf subscription formula. Available since September 22, 2023, this offer allows you to take advantage of 10 trips per week, i.e. 5 round trips, with 20 free minutes and no unblocking fees. To give users more flexibility, Lime specifies that this formula is without commitment. Here is its price: €19.99 per week.

A rather substantial bill, which can however be considerably reduced thanks to to the financial system Sustainable Mobility Package. This aid, accessible to private sector employees, makes it possible to finance sustainable mobility travel up to €800 maximum.
