Paris Marathon: Morhad Amdouni breaks the 19-year-old French record, Ethiopian Deso Gelmisa winner

Magnificent performance by Morhad Amdouni (34) in the streets of the capital. Third at the finish of the Paris marathon, won by the Ethiopian Deso Gelmisa, the Frenchman set a new French record this Sunday.

Under the sun but in the cold, Morhad Amdouni completed the 42.195 km with a time of 2 h 05 min 22 sec. With this time, he broke the record, 19 years old to the day, of Benoit Zwierzchiewski, achieved in 2003 already in Paris (2 h 06 min 36 sec).

“I am very happy. Beating this record in Paris, at home, is fantastic”, welcomed Morhad Amdouni on arrival, who only participated in the third maraton. And he, by the way, smashed his personal best in the marathon dating from 2019, already at the foot of the Eiffel Tower (2 h 09 min 14 sec).

And this is not the only record to have fallen during this 2022 edition. If the Ethiopian Deso Gelmisa won (2 h 05 min 07 sec), dropping in the last meters his compatriot Seifu Tura, the Kenyan Judith Jeptum won the women’s race, setting a new event record (2:19:48). It improved by more than a minute the previous record set five years ago (2 h 20 min 55 sec). First French, Anaïs Quemener finished in 14th place (2 h 37 min 26 sec).
