Paris: march against racism and Islamophobia deemed “ultra-sensitive” according to intelligence

The so-called march “against racism, Islamophobia and for the defense of minorities” should start this Sunday at 2 p.m. from Barbès, in Paris. Considered ultra-sensitive, it will be particularly monitored by the police. At issue: some of the organizers and personalities who announced their presence.

It is a demonstration under high security which takes place this Sunday in the streets of the capital. The so-called march “against racism, Islamophobia and for the defense of minorities” is considered ultra-sensitive, according to an intelligence note that Europe 1 obtained. Departing from Barbès at 2 p.m., the parade must end at Place de la République. A march, for a time canceled by the prefecture in the face of the risk of disturbing public order, finally authorized after a court decision.

Pro-Palestinian movements and black blocs on call

This march will therefore be closely monitored by the authorities, in particular because of its organizers. This was initiated by the pro-Palestinian indigenous movements and by France Insoumise, in the midst of a period of tension in the Middle East. Around ten thousand demonstrators are expected, according to police headquarters estimates, and among them, around a hundred black blocs accustomed to ultra-violence against the police.

Along the route, several stores risk being targeted by pro-Palestinian activists such as Carrefour or McDonald’s, two brands they accuse of complicity with Israel. Another concern during this event: the concert by rappers Médine and Tunisiano, Place de la République at 6 p.m. Artists who are very popular with young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods, but capable of making anti-Semitic remarks. According to the information note that Europe 1 was able to consult, to address its concerns, a strong police presence is planned throughout the day.
