Paris: migrants attacked in a camp in the north of the capital

Several migrants were allegedly attacked in the afternoon this Sunday, May 1, in a “camp” located in “north of Paris”, said the officials of the association Utopia 56, who work on the ground with these people. in exile.

“An attack took place on this camp in the north of Paris this afternoon”, thus communicated the association Utopia 56 this Sunday, explaining that one of the people attacked was currently “in the emergency room”, and that of other young people were also injured.

“The attackers threatened to come back soon”, also explained the association, which fears for the lives of the hundred people – “110 young people” according to the association – who live in this makeshift camp.

Faced with this situation, the association called Ian Brossat, the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of housing and emergency accommodation, but also Marlène Schiappa, the minister delegate in charge of citizenship as well as the prefecture of Paris and Ile-de-France in order to organize “immediate sheltering”.

A particularly vulnerable public

This is not the first time that these exiled people have been victims of attacks in and around the capital. On December 8, 2021, a man had already attacked and injured two men of Sudanese origin in a camp set up near the Parc de Bercy, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

At the time, it was clear that it was a “racist attack” according to Ian Brossat, who assured that the attacker had shouted: “There are enough of foreigners!” when acting. Arrested on the spot, the man in question had finally been indicted and imprisoned last February.

For several weeks, grassroots associations have been pointing out that several hundred migrants – regardless of their official status as refugees, asylum seekers or Dubliners – live on the streets in Ile-de-France. A particularly worrying and disarming situation while at the same time, accommodation places are freed up every day for Ukrainian refugees.
