The flagship index of the Paris Stock Exchange, the CAC 40, set a new record on Tuesday, driven by expectations of monetary policies more favorable to economic activity on the part of central banks.

The CAC 40 rose to 7,582.11 points around 10:55 a.m., beating its previous record dated April 24. Since its last low point at the end of October, the stock index has jumped more than 11%.

The index has increased by 16.88% since the start of the year. Among the most notable performances of the index since January 1, Stellantis has seen its share jump almost 60%, Safran gains more than 40% and Hermès nearly 40%.

The stock markets have regained strength since the end of October, driven by the easing of borrowing rates by States, particularly France.

The conclusions of the monetary policy committee of the American Central Bank then fueled investor optimism at the end of its November meeting, leaving its rates unchanged.

Therefore, market operators have planned for the first hoped-for reductions in central bank rates, which they believe are possible from the first months of 2024.

The US central bank holds its last meeting of the year on Tuesday and Wednesday.
