Paris: who are the 5 scooter operators located in the capital?


Deployed throughout Paris as far as the inner suburbs, free-floating electric scooters have established themselves as a safe, comfortable and fast way of getting around the capital. But faced with the explosion in their number, the municipality intends to keep only 3 operators. However, up to 5 of them shared the market.

At the start of Parisian free-floating in 2016, there was Cityscoot, considered since as the leader in this field. Left alone on the market for a long time, the French operator has finally been joined by others in recent months. At the same time, in 2018, Troopy launched a free-floating service with 125 cm3 scooters, available throughout Ile-de-France but with a small fleet and not electric.

More recently, the American Lime, who already has electric scooters and bikes, then came to compete with them last April, before giving up, wishing to focus on these first offers after its merger with Jump (Uber). Then came in quick succession Cooltra and Yego, arriving on the Parisian market in June 2021.

Cityscoot

Market leader therefore, Cityscoot now has a fleet of 4,000 electric scooters, and is available in Paris as well as in a dozen towns in the near suburbs, including Boulogne-Billancourt, Issy-les-Moulineaux, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre. , Ivry-sur-Seine, Saint-Mandé, Saint-Ouen or even Levallois-Perret.

Small novelty in date, some scooters are now equipped with two helmets, visible on the application with a dark green border. And if they are purple, it means that a 10-minute rental is offered.

Price side, it is the painful since Cityscoot has greatly increased its prices since its inception. It is now necessary to count 39 cents per minute, or 7.8 euros for 20 minutes or 11.7 euros for 30 minutes (or 28, 32 or 34 cents per minute if the user buys a pack).

Troopy

He’s a bit of an outsider on this list. If the operator Troopy arrived well before the others in Paris and in a dozen neighboring cities, it only has 125 cm3 three-wheel scooters – only accessible to holders of a license and an approved course – non-electric.

However, the French start-up has decided to electrify its fleet in order to respond to the call for tenders launched by the Paris city hall on December 13. Ultimately, it intends to launch two new 50 and 125 cm3 electric vehicles, which will be presented at the Autonomy Show in March 2022.

Price side, it is now necessary to count 45 euros for 150 minutes (or 30 cents per minute) or 75 euros for 300 minutes (or 25 cents per minute), excluding breaks.

Cooltra

100% electric, Cooltra scooters are rentable by the minute, day or month, with obviously decreasing prices in passing.

Price side, there are 4 packs of 10 (30 cents per minute), 20 (29 cents per minute), 50 (26 cents per minute) and 90 euros (25 cents per minute). Or packs that allow you to drive around 40, 86, 269 or 520 minutes.

Then, there are three passes with unlimited journeys at the price of 19, 29 and 39 euros, for unlimited journeys of 8 hours, 24 hours or 48 hours. Without pack or pass, it takes 36 cents per minute (i.e. 7.2 euros for 20 minutes or 10.8 euros for 30 minutes)

Yego

The latest arrival, Yego has the ambition of the big ones, however, and said from the start that he was ready to take up the challenge if a call for tenders was launched by the Paris municipality. If for the moment, only the city of Paris is included in its geographical sector, the inner suburbs could quickly be integrated there.

Same observation regarding the number of scooters deployed: up to 600 scooters are available today at Yego, but the group plans to have a fleet of between 1,500 and 2,000 vehicles.

The very first scooters will be available from Monday June 21.

On the price side, Yego started with a base rate of 0.36 euros per minute. Either 5.4 euros for a 15-minute journey or 9 euros for a 25-minute journey. At the same time, 4 packs are now available at 10, 30, 50 and 90 euros, with a percentage of free minutes proportional to the price of the pack purchased.

Lime

In December 2021, Lime decided to withdraw its electric scooters from the Parisian market, only 8 months after its launch, and will therefore not participate in the call for tenders launched by the Paris municipality. However, its scooters and electric bikes remain available in free-floating.
