Paris will not oppose the rebalancing of Renault-Nissan – Les Echos

PARIS, Jan 10 (Reuters) – The French state will not oppose the reorganization of the alliance between Renault and Nissan and the rebalancing of cross-shareholdings between the two carmakers, Emmanuel Macron told Japanese Prime Minister Fumio on Monday evening. Kishida, the daily Les Echos reported on Tuesday.

According to two sources cited by the newspaper, the French Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, sent a detailed letter to his Japanese counterparts at METI to confirm Paris’ support for this reorganization.

Nissan is calling for a rebalancing of the current structure of the alliance, inherited from the rescue of the Japanese group by the French manufacturer, through the sale of part of the 43% that Renault holds in Nissan to bring this stake back to the same level as the 15 % held by the Japanese group in its French partner.

“The prospect of an agreement between Renault and Nissan finally seems to materialize, and the idea of ​​an announcement at the end of January is even starting to be mentioned, in Paris but also in Yokohama”, writes Les Echos again.
