Paris Wounded by gunshot during a check: one dead, three police officers in police custody

The three police officers who fired on a car in Paris on Saturday, seriously injuring the driver and his passenger suspected of having wanted to escape control, were placed in police custody on Sunday afternoon at the General Inspectorate of the National Police. (IGPN).

They are two men and a woman. Their custody can last up to forty-eight hours. They are justified in particular with regard to the seriousness of the injuries.

The charges against them could also be changed. Hit in the head, the woman died on Sunday evening. The state of health of the man, injured in the chest, has improved.

Two investigations were opened, one entrusted to the IGPN targeting the police, the other to the Paris judicial police targeting the occupants of the car for attempted homicide on persons holding public authority.

Two passengers interviewed

The facts took place at the end of the morning on Saturday in the 18th arrondissement, in the north of the capital. Police officers on mountain bikes first noticed “a car with four passengers, one of whom was not wearing his seat belt,” another police source said on Saturday. As they approach, the car “takes off at very high speed”. A little further on, as the officers again tried to control him, the driver started up again and “ran into the ATV police crew”, according to the police account. The officials “then used their weapons” on several occasions and seriously injured “the driver and a passenger”, who were taken to hospital.

The two rear passengers, a man and a woman, were not injured and began to be heard on Saturday. Some of the occupants are known to the services and claim to have consumed alcohol and cannabis.
