Parisiennes crowned champions of France for the first time

The women’s Paris-Saint-Germain won, Friday, June 4, the first title in its history in women’s D1, by defeating Dijon 3-0, for the final day of the championship. A consecration that breaks 14 years of hegemony of women’s OL. The Parisiennes end the season undefeated and with 62 points, one more than the Lyonnaises who end with a victory-river (8-0) against Fleury.

The PSG girls took control of the championship in November by beating their Lyon rivals 1-0 at the Parc des Princes, and have not let go since. In fact, the title was already reaching out to them since the draw obtained last Sunday in Lyon. “We would have liked to win but this 0-0 allows us to keep the cards in hand”, summed up midfielder Sara Däbritz after the game. “There is one match left against Dijon that we have to win. There was no euphoria ”, had tempered his trainer Olivier Echouafni.

White season for the Lyonnaises

Appointed in 2018, the former coach of the Bleues offered the women’s section of PSG, twenty years after his last promotion to the elite, a title never before acquired. These last three seasons, the players of the capital had to be satisfied with a place of runners-up behind the unbeatable Lyonnaises. Weakened by the absence of the Ballon d’Or Ada Hegerberg this season, the latter have signed a season without any title, a first since 2006.

OL hope to bounce back next year under the orders of Sonia Bompastor, appointed at the end of April in place of Jean-Luc Vasseur, coach who disembarked after elimination from the European Cup. However, we will have to learn to live without goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi, midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsán and striker Eugénie Le Sommer, all three on loan to the American subsidiary OL Reign until December 31, 2021.
